DIRECTV and DISH Support Swift Bipartisan Compromise “STAVRA” Passage out of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, & Transportation

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. and ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Sept. 16, 2014 – DIRECTV and DISH issued the following statement in support of the managers’ amendment released Sep. 12, 2014, for the Satellite Television Access and Viewer Rights Act (STAVRA):

"We support the efforts of Chairman Rockefeller and Ranking Member Thune to pass legislation that makes important reforms to the outdated laws governing today’s video market while ensuring continuity of service to more than 1.5 million distant signal subscribers who would, otherwise, lose service at the end of this year.  We urge the Senate Commerce Committee to pass the version of STAVRA that was released as the manager’s amendment last Friday.  Although that version does not contain the ‘Local Choice’ provisions that were originally proposed by Senators Rockefeller and Thune, we remain enthusiastic supporters of ‘Local Choice’ and other retransmission consent reform efforts that protect consumers by ending local channel blackouts. We look forward to continuing that important discussion.”
